Mark S. Parker is a storyteller and songwriter born in Mexia. He spent his formative years in Waco before graduating from Belton High School and Texas A&M back in the 70’s. This Central Texas boy married a West Texas girl in 1977 and they and their first son moved to Midland, her hometown, in 1980. There, he went to work for Gulf Oil as a landman and was just happy to have a job. He’s been a landman ever since. Sometimes with a company and sometimes independently. Their four children grew up in Midland. Now he has five grandchildren with one on the way. He’s always enjoyed books, literature, letters, words and wordplay. His writing, until recently, has been for family, friends and church. A few years ago, about the time his grandchildren started coming along, he started writing books and songs for children and young people. His grandchildren are his muse.

Parker’s first published middle grade novel, SHAKY MAN, was released in October of 2015. It is the story of the unlikely friendship of two boys, one white, one black, growing up in Central Texas during the 1960's. They are brought together by their common love of laughter, baseball and Star Trek. They come to deal with the racism, intolerance and turbulence of the times. There is even a murder and a trial.

Jo Ann Holt, in the Dallas Focus Daily News said, "This book is so much fun, most readers won’t realize they are being taught compassion and respect for others while turning pages to find out how the story ends."
