The Grievance Committee, Book Five in the Grievance Committee Series
Synopsis

This historical novel displays South Africa’s racial segregation from 1943 to 1964.

A Catholic priest helps a young Colored elope with a Zulu princess. On their escape route, tragedy strikes, but befriended by a White Member of Parliament and his wife, they get jobs, a safe house in a biracial part of Cape Town, and security against racial oppression, although unrest besieges South Africa.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s racial segregation conflicts with the ‘human rights’ concept enshrined in the United Nations Charter, isolating South Africa. Inside South Africa, various groups urge the current South African government to stop enacting more racial inequality laws, especially since an election for Parliament is approaching.

In the 1948 election, the Afrikaner-led political party loses the popular vote but wins the most seats in Parliament to control the government. Now, racial segregation becomes systemic via Apartheid, a daily living reality for Whites, Blacks, Coloreds, and Asians.

In spite of organized non-violent resistance led by Nelson Mandela, the Apartheid government reacts with brutal force, even threatening family members with punishment. Is there no escape from Apartheid?

Since History repeats itself, is there today a lesson for America?
