The true mark of successful storytelling is the ability to hold an audience captive. Maryann Miller mastered that art as a child by recounting wild tales to her family who couldn't escape unless they wanted to forfeit dinner. From that modest beginning, she refined her craft and established a professional writing career, placing feature articles and short stories in national and regional publications.

Miller went on to write books, screenplays and stage plays. Her mystery, Open Season, is the first book in a new series that features two women homicide detectives in Dallas. Think "Lethal Weapon" set in Dallas with female leads. It has received rave reviews from Publisher's Weekly and Library Journal. The second book in the series, Stalking Season, also received a STARRED review from Publisher's Weekly.

Miller has won numerous awards for her screenplays and short fiction, including the Page Edwards Short Fiction Award, the New York Library Best Books for Teens Award, and first place in the screenwriting competition at the Houston Writer's Conference. She has been writing all her life and plans to die at her computer or out in her garden in the beautiful Piney Woods of East Texas where she lives with her husband, one horse, one goat, one sheep, one dog and four cats. The cats rule.
