Terrible tragedy was the catalyst for Virginia’s discovery of the magic of compassion. She had been a victim of domestic violence, a single parent to four children, a step-parent and when her youngest child was two weeks old her second husband was diagnosed with ALS more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. It was compassion that saved her although she wouldn’t realize it until after she had experienced much more heartache.

Later, when she reflected on her life, she discovered that practicing self compassion and compassion for her husband, children and others had saved her and that had she been open to more compassion through these trials she would have weathered them much better. She discovered that compassion heals.

She was inspired to learn more about compassion. She has studied and read extensively about the origins of compassion, the psychological and health benefits of compassion and how compassion can be developed in adults and children.

Virginia speaks and writes about the power and science of compassion. She is an attorney who practices elder law in Central Texas.
